2.1.3
If there are several components, describe any synergies expected from the
combination of different components—for example, TB/HIV collaborative activities
(by synergies, we mean the added value that the different components bring
to each other, or how the combination of these components may have broader
impact).
China’s Round 5 TB application will concentrate on coordinating
TB/HIV co-infection in three high-prevalence provinces. TB/HIV is a critical
and to date largely unaddressed problem in China. Limited operational research
from AIDS treatment sites show that as many as 25% of AIDS patients may
be co-infected with TB. Multi-drug resistant TB is common in China. In
many areas, as many as 10% of newly discovered cases are MDR.
While this proposal does not contain a treatment component, TB will
be an important entry point for VCT services, and will link this project
with both the national TB and AIDS treatment programs.
