Yet another AIDS carrier confirmed -- Doctor: A warning on high risk sexual behavior

Yet another AIDS patient was confirmed, and another three patients are assumed, but it is necessary to wait for laboratory results for further confirmation! The information released yesterday from the Jiangsu Center for Disease Control’s STD Clinic points out that an increasing number of people are going to the Clinic to get tested for AIDS. Doctors warn that the number of AIDS patients who were infected through sexual contact is on the rise. At the end of the year, with more frequent business activities, people should monitor their own activity and avoid high risk sexual activity.

According to Guan Wenhui, the Director of the Jiangsu Center for Disease Control’s STD Clinic, the confirmed patient, a male in his 30’s who works at the Nanjing office of his company, had engaged in high risk sexual activities.
Recently, almost at year’s end and about to return home, the confirmed AIDS patient decided to go to the Clinic to get free testing for STDs and AIDS, but nobody thought he would be confirmed another AIDS patient! In addition to this, recently the clinic has tested three patients who are suspected of having AIDS, but need further confirmation. Guan Wenhui said plainly that the number of people who have voluntarily come into the clinic for free testing has suddenly skyrocketed, that there are about 20 people daily, and another 30 or so people who consult with the clinic over the phone. Most of the people who come in are males between the ages of 20 and 40, and there are only two or three females that come in on any given day. Almost all of the people come in after engaging in high-risk sexual activities, and are now worried about the returning home and infecting their spouses or partners at home with AIDS or other STDs. Guan reminds us that these peoples’ fears are not irrational, as the Clinic had many more STD patients after Chinese New Year last year. In this year, out of the seven confirmed AIDS patients at this clinic, all the patients contracted AIDS from sexual activity, besides two patients who contracted the disease from drug abuse. At this time, the rate of contraction from sexual contact is quickly increasing, which is indicative that AIDS could very well spread from the high-risk population to the average population at large. This is very dangerous, and city dwellers should all be concerned and aware of such a risk.
