The “HIV/AIDS Prevention and Treatment Regulations” announced by
Xinhua Net on Feb. 12 defined the rights and responsibilities of
people living with HIV/AIDS and their families. The overview establishes
their legal rights subject to protection by law.
The regulation stipulates that no agency or individual may discriminate
against people living with HIV/AIDS and their families. The right
to marriage, employment, health service and education are legally
protected by law.
At the same time, people living with HIV/AIDS and their families
shall carry out the following responsibilities: cooperate with epidemiologic
investigation and direction from the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC) or immigration health screening agencies; report
in a timely manner their infection or disease status to the doctors;
to take necessary measures to prevent infecting others.
The regulation also stipulates that people living with HIV/AIDS
may not in any way intentionally infect others with HIV.
