November 30 - In a news conference by the State Council Information Office today,
China’s Health Minister Gao Qiang commented on China’s efforts on AIDS
prevention. Gao said that China hopes for a close collaborative relationship
between HIV/AIDS NGOs and governmental agencies for the one goal that unites
them all—more effective prevention from further spread of the disease and
more efficient efforts for providing care and aid for HIV/AIDS patients.
Gao said that although HIV/AIDS prevention is an important responsibility
of a government, government efforts alone often are not adequate for keeping
the epidemic under control. Therefore, China hopes to see more NGOs as
well as businesses and organizations to participate in HIV/AIDS prevention.
Gao also called for strengthening efforts of health promotion and employee
management within organizations. Gao also hoped to see more donations from
for-profit organizations to support the HIV/AIDS prevention efforts together
with the governmental budgeted funds.
