Qianxun online reports: “transmission of the AIDS virus through medical procedures that violate regulations, has already become a latent killer.” In the latest research report by the head of Guiyang Hospital’s Dermatology Department, Professor Lu Hongguang, improving prevention knowledge among medical workers and AIDS sufferers and strengthening prevention and management of the medical transmission of AIDS are crucial methods in eliminating the transmission of AIDS through medical procedures.

Since the first AIDS case was discovered in our province in 1993, there has been an upward annual trend in cases of the disease, although the province remains an area of low prevalence. The data shows that most people with AIDS in the province are young, 80% of them were infected through intravenous drug use and about 5% through sexual transmission. Currently, the spread of AIDS through illegal blood collection has been effectively controlled but tainted blood and other routes of medical infection remains a dangerous latent factor in the spread of AIDS. Therefore, control measures targeting the spread of AIDS through medical sources and the thorough obstruction of the transmission of AIDS in medical units and various medical activities, is an important preventive task.

In this regard, Professor Lu Hongguang has submitted a proposal to this year’s meeting of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. It states that AIDS tests be carried out timely AIDS education and training be conducted for medical staff at various levels in various hospitals, for greater testing of blood donors and recipients and at blood collections stations, strengthening the monitoring of implementation of medical regulations at multi-purpose hospitals and private and individual clinics and the handling according to law of medical workers who cause AIDS transmission through the violation of regulations during medical procedures. Medical units must be dealt with according to law and administrative leaders should be punished and held to criminal responsibility.
