In the new list of medicines included in basic
medical insurance ("Yi Bao"), anti-virals (ARVs) are growing, among them: In addition to Fancyclovir, Gancyclovir,
and “LinJiaSuanNa”, 11 types of ARV are also included in the list.
This includes: Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors (lamivudine,
zidovudine, didanosine, stavudine, and abacavir), Non-Nucleoside
Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors (nevirapine, efavirenz), and Protease
Inhibitors (indinavir, ritonavir, nelfinavir, and saquinavir).
These 11 types of medicine are all limited to use for HIV-related
conditions. There are also new drugs limited to the treatment of
Acute Influenza, "Ausitawei" and to the treatment of
active Hepatitis-B, Lamivudine.
The inclusion of anti-AIDS ARV medicines on the
national medical insurance list is a sign of the importance placed
on AIDS treatment by the nation, and represents a major help for
people suffering from HIV/AIDS. It will also further open the market
for ARV medicines.
