Shandong
Pushes AIDS prevention measure: It is not permitted to fire people with HIV/AIDS
[People’s Daily Online, 31 May 2004]
Shandong province recently released a document forbidding the
firing or breaking of a labor contract with an employee because that employee
has HIV or AIDS, or is an HIV carrier. This is one of the measures being
taken by the province to address HIV/AIDS.
It is understood that the Shandong Health Department has called
on Provincial, City, and County (district) level expert committees to be
formed on HIV/AIDS, and for hospitals and wards for HIV/AIDS to be designated
in order to receive AIDS patients. At present Shandong has already established
a confirmation laboratory for HIV testing, 19 laboratories for testing
HIV, and 87 other testing laboratories. 17 city-level enterprises have
established 4 national level and 21 provincial level HIV monitoring sites.
This year, Shandong province will start two rural comprehensive
HIV/AIDS control and prevention districts in Cao County and Xuncheng City,
and two urban districts in Jinan City and Yantai City.
