Ministry of Health calls for Strengthening of AIDS Control work in model districts
CCTV: Ministry of Health Circular:
Each area must strengthen AIDS prevention and control management work.
Since last year, China started
setting up a network of basic medical and social care providers
for people with HIV/AIDS based in villages, townships, and (urban) neighborhoods.
The Ministry of Health goals for the model AIDS prevention and
control
areas must be met: 70% of the residents must understand basic AIDS
prevention information; condom use among those with HIV/AIDS and their
partners
must be more than 95%, and 70% for other high-risk groups; more
than 90% of people with HIV/AIDS must receive standard treatment, with
clinical
and preventive services; an organizational mechanism must be set
up for AIDS prevention and control work, which implement prevention measures
and provide social and emotional support and assistance for people
with
HIV/AIDS; on a foundation of self-help and support, provide care
and assistance to 90% of people with AIDS in the district. China will use
the experience of these districts to expand AIDS prevention and
control
to a national level, to prevent the further spread of HIV/AIDS.
